Kids come with woolly clothing built in, Children do not!

More here about clothing and accessories for Children and Kids

Yes it's one of the obvious differences between kids, young goats that is, and children. Kids come with woolly clothing built in. Children do not! Their parents have to provide them with clothing and accessories, often made from wool which may have come from goats although sheep's wool is probably more common.

Many adults object to the term, "kids" when referring to children. That may be due to the goat connection. However most of us are quite lazy in our use of language and it seems to come easier to say, "kids" than "children." Any reference to "kids" from here on means children and not goats.

What we're really meant to be discussing here is clothing and accessories for children, or kids if you prefer. It's funny how fashions go in cycles very often. Several hundred years ago clothing and accessories for children were exactly the same as those for adults, only smaller. That must have made life easy for those making clothes. They just made the same styles in a very wide range of sizes.

That continued for centuries until about the time of Queen Victoria. Then those who could afford such frivolity began dressing their children in styles different to what adults would wear. For little boys it was the era of the sailor suit and for little girls the pinafore dress. Boys were dressed in short trousers until the age of about 12 or so. Girls didn't wear trousers. School uniforms developed along these lines and may have had some influence on the way these modes of dress continued until about the 1960s. About then jeans became universal wear for both sexes and, gradually at first, all ages. Now our kids are at least as fashion conscious as we are from a very early age and woe betide the parent who buys the wrong garment for their child and expects the kid to wear it!

Talking of buying, that's actually why you're reading this isn't it? You need to buy clothing and accessories for your children. because either they're rapidly growing out of what they've got or because it's so last year Mum!

Rather than take the kids around loads of shops and risk embarrassing them or being embarrassed by them why not have a look at one or two websites and see what you can find without leaving your chair.

Here are one or two sites to get you going. A good start might be www.vertbaudet.co.uk or there's www.BalloonsWeb.co.uk and then how about www.kidscavern.co.uk . Visit www.shopsafe.co.uk and see what they've got to offer.

These are just a sample of what the internet has to offer. In the time it would have taken you to go around the shops in your nearest town you can try dozens of sites online without paying for a single car park or any bus fares. In fact it'll have cost you nothing and you'll probably make some savings on the prices too.
